What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a combination of Psychotherapy and Hypnosis, which enables our subconscious mind to make beneficial changes to the way we live our lives.
What to expect?
Many people think that hypnotherapy is something that is "done" to them, but this is certainly not the case!
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process, whereby change will happen because of your desire for change, and a willingness to take the necessary steps to allow it to happen.
The initial consultation is geared around establishing your requirements and explaining how hypnotherapy will help in achieving these.
Subsequent sessions will focus on your progress, and will encourage you to then focus on the solutions rather than the problems. We will then try to imagine your future from a different perspective before you are then guided into a relaxed state of hypnosis, which will consolidate these ideas.
What is Psychotherapy?
There are many different types of psychotherapy, all of which help people to overcome stress or emotional problems. It involves talking to help the client overcome their difficulties.
The "Solution Focused" approach, which I practise, is focused on solutions for the future, rather than analysing the past. We will of course acknowledge past events, however our focus will be on getting you from where you are to where you want to be.
So, provided you are willing to make changes to the way you think, the therapy can be highly effective in relieving symptoms of anxiety and stress.
What is Hypnosis?
We all experience hypnosis in our everyday lives, sometimes many times a day!
Have you ever driven home and not remembered anything about the journey, or maybe you have been engrossed in a book and not aware of the time passing? Well, this state of focused attention is very much like being hypnotised!
During hypnosis, you will be guided into a similar state whereby beneficial suggestion can be directed towards your subconscious mind.
In this relaxed state, your mind is more responsive to suggestion which can help change your unhelpful thought patterns.
Clients often comment on how ordinary hypnosis feels, it is not unlike daydreaming! You will often hear everything that is being said, whilst being in that deeply relaxed state.
Despite what is portrayed in films, books and the media, hypnosis will not make you do anything you do not want to do!
